Over the past decade or so, we’ve done a ton of work with wealth managers, or RIAs. We’ve helped build some of the most humanistic wealth management brands in the country. We’ve seen our brand work effectively relaunch RIAs, and drive sharp, sustainable spikes in AUM. Even before the private equity madness, we saw an inordinate number of our clients get acquired for a big premium.
Three takeaways from our experience: 1. It takes a lot of sophistication and vision to truly differentiate an RIA. It’s hard to do, for reasons we’ll go into at another time. 2. Building a real, emotional, empathic brand for an RIA is a game-changer. 3. Ninety-nine percent of RIA brands, even those of the largest, most successful firms, are terrible — dull, dry, ugly, institutional. They’re doing nothing to drive growth. They’re masking great firms.
This is an incredible opportunity. It takes a kind of thinking that does not seem to be endemic to RIAs. But we can help effect the required shift in mindset. That’s the biggest obstacle, by far. If we can help you over that one, you literally can vault to being one of the strongest RIA brands in the country in a matter of months. The bar is set that low, and the upside is that great.
